About the conference
As Australian Government continues to dither over the question of nuclear energy, the world is not waiting for us. And Australian uranium explorers and developers are not waiting either, as future demand for the commodity appears to be inexhaustible.
While Australia sits on a treasure trove of uranium oxide – believed to be up to 40% of the world’s reserves – China alone intends to produce 40 gigawatts of power from nuclear reactors by 2020. This is more than four times the 9.1 gigawatts it produced in 2008. China already has 11 nuclear reactors, with 17 under construction and 124 on the drawing boards. No wonder Australian companies, whose main focus is uranium, saw an average 11% jump in the value of their companies last year, despite the global financial crisis.
South Australia, under Mike Rann’s premiership, has become the most uranium-friendly State, followed by Colin Barnett’s Western Australia. So it is not surprising that the country’s largest conference on the subject continues to be held in SA. The fourth Paydirt Uranium Conference will be held in Adelaide on March 1-2 this year. The programme will include keynote speakers from Government, industry representative bodies, academics, explorers and miners.
